The Hemis Kachina is one of the most widely recognized Hopi Kachinas in the world, and is also known as the Niman Kachina, from the ceremony that he appears most often in. The Niman ceremony is performed during the Summer Solstice season in July. At sunrise on the day of the dance, the Hemis Kachina appears in the plaza with corn and melons, representing the abundance of food and good virtues among the deserving Hopi. He is accompanied by other Hemis Kachinas and Kachina Maidens, and all are involved in dancing and singing during this special ceremony that ends the kachina season.
