(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1983 Dodge Ramcharger Prospector on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of the classic SUV due to third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 150 photographs, as well as a short start-up and walk-around video, and a link to the Ramcharger's accident-and-damage-free Carfax history report, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.)
"... perhaps the vintage 4x4 market's best kept secret: the Dodge Ramcharger." -Motor Trend, January 2019
The Motor Trend writers continued: "Existing deep in the shadow of the Bronco and the Blazer even since new, the Ramcharger gets passed over for big-money builds and restorations, leaving the majority of surviving examples beaten and abused. It's a shame, considering these two-doors are handsome brutes with a similar brawny, let-your-chest-hair-flow vibe that makes the Bronco and K5 Blazer so popular."
"The... SUV gave outdoorsy Mopar fans exactly what they sought: rugged individuality. The Ramcharger was ostensibly a base-model Dodge pickup that had nine inches chopped from the wheelbase and with the bulkhead and roof lopped off the cab. The truck came standard without a roof, but the vast majority were fitted with a heavy, drop-on, optional steel top with a flip-up fiberglass rear window; a vinyl soft top was also offered. The bed area of the interior could be covered in rubber or carpet."
Offered here is a 1983 Dodge Ramcharger Prospector, the highest trim level, in two-tone black over red. The SUV's odometer reads 40,757, a very conservative 1,100 miles per-year on average. This Ramcharger was a late-in-the-model-run example with updated styling and a non-removable steel roof.
The Ramcharger's exterior has been resprayed in both glossy and matte black as part of a "safari look" statement. Gloss black paint, primarily on the upper surfaces, shows an even finish and very good luster overall. The lower body, fender flares, and rear liftgate wear the matte finish. A full-width, low-profile black roof rack with 360-degree aftermarket LED off-road lighting is mounted. Chrome bumpers front and rear are in excellent condition; west-coast style, chrome side mirrors are in place. Factory badging-including "Dodge Ram" on the brushed-metal rear trim piece, "Prospector" on the rear fenders, "150 Ram Charger" emblems on the front fenders, and "Dodge" on the hood beneath the ram-figure hood ornament-is all correctly in place. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Aftermarket alloy wheels are mounted with outline-white-letter Goodyear® Wrangler AT 33x12.5 R15 LT tires. The Ram has a moderate lift kit installed.
The SUV's interior retains a virtually stock look throughout. All surfaces-carpets, door trim, seat upholstery, dashboard and more-display excellent, damage-free finishes. Door trim combines red carpeting on the lower portions with hard surfaces in a matching shade with woodgrain trim. Red carpeting covers the cabin and cargo area floors. Red upholstery fabric (and vinyl trim) on the foldable front high-back buckets and removable rear bench seat (with armrests) has a tweed-like weave. Front seats are separated by a locking storage box. The factory sport steering wheel (with "pentastar" Chrysler logo center badge) frames three large instrument openings on a woodgrain panel, all in place on the red dash. Instrument graphic markings are crisp. To the right, a "Chronometer" digital clock, push-button HVAC controls and the factory AM-FM stereo radio are mounted. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the steering wheel while the transfer-case 4WD selector is floor-mounted.
Under the hood, the 5.7-liter Chrysler V8 has added flair from chrome valve-covers. Otherwise, the engine bay is largely stock and clean, but not overly detailed. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete and free of damage. Skyjacker® Nitro 8000 shocks are mounted.
The Ramcharger's original build and identification tags remain mounted. The sale includes the original owner's manual.
While the more than 150 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '83 Ramcharger in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
As Motor Trend noted, Ramchargers are poised to rise in popularity much as Broncos and Blazers have already done, often to financially out-of-reach levels. Fortunately, outdoor-adventure-loving Mopar fans really do have an excellent, accessible, go-anywhere choice with this "Built. Ram. Tough." Prospector.

    About Garage Kept Motors
Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.
For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.
For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
