    Description

Presented today is this quietly wonderful Hopi Kachina doll, depicting Kwikwilyaka, the Mocking Kachina.  This unique clown, with telescope eyes, perfectly mimics the actions of whoever interests him. His mocking gestures are delightful, but when he turns his attention on the Kachina dancers themselves, the dancers quickly lose patience. In order to rid themselves of his perfect mimicry, they finally pantomime setting their hair on fire, which the Mocking Kachina does, literally, running around the courtyard screaming, with his hair actually on fire, to the delight of the crowds. This wonderful example was carved by Vernon Dallas, a very dear friend who tragically just passed away, in the very prime of his life.  i loved him and i will miss him forever. As much as i would like to keep this doll for myself, i owe it to him (and you) to see it go to the owner it is destined for. Thanks for looking and sincere Congratulations to the person who acquires this little treasure. Best Regards, Rich
