  • Condition: B-Stock: Multiple hairline scratches on both long sides of the speaker. Also, a few shallow chips about the size of a pencil eraser head (I've touched these up making them difficult to see). All of these these cosmetic flaws are only visible if you are within three feet of the speaker with light shining on either long wall of the speaker. The front has no cosmetic flaws. There are no sonic or operational flaws.

    Description

    For sale is a single Hsu Research CCB-8 speaker with minor cosmetic flaws.  This is the basis for my very low opening bid price.  It is an audiophile grade coaxial design well suited for use as a center channel speaker (Hsu also sells it as bookshelf speakers).  Features of this speaker follow based on first hand experience:
    Exceptionally clear vocal reproduction
    Solid, heavy speaker with an extra large motor for both drivers, which results in an efficient speaker with very low distortion
    Even coverage from all listening positions in a room due to the coaxial arrangement of the drivers.  The CCB-8 avoids the frequency lobbing problem of horizontal midrange-tweeter-midrange designs.
    Very efficient (94 Db @ 1 M-1 W), so they can be driven to high levels with low power amplifiers, including 1-3 watt tube amps
    Excellent detail and transparency-audiophile grade
    Very dynamic at low or high listening levels
    One or both rear ports can be sealed to tweak mid-bass response (port plugs included)
    Solid bass extension to 50 Hz in room.  You can run this speaker full range.
    Can be arranged vertically as shown in the photos, or horizontally (the grill and logo rotate to accommodate this).  Given this speakers cosmetic flaws on the long sides, I recommend horizontal placement.
