Description
Hello bidders. Up for bid today is a pair of 1940s/1950s Seminiole Indian Native American Palmetto Husk & Patchwork Cloth Dolls.
The male dolls are way harder to find then the normal.
First made in 1918, palmetto dolls were made with palmetto fibers because the color of the fibers resembled Native American skin tones better than white wood that was typically used for dolls of the time period. Female palmetto dolls have only one basic outfit, made up of a cape and skirt. The male dolls have two different styles. Most male dolls wear a long shirt but some wear pants and shirts, such as the one you see listed here. Pairs of male and female dolls began to be created together in the 1930s because it was believed they would sell better to the tourists.
This pair of dolls have some wear to their outfits such as some fade, a few age spots and one or two small holes, but they are in overall good shape. The female stands on her own, the male does not.
